Find the dot markers on frets 3, 5, 7, 9, 12

Frets are numbered from the nut (0 = open). The inlay dots on fret 3, 5, 7, 9, 12 are navigation aids.

The 12th fret is one octave up from the open string. Learning the notes on the low E and A strings unlocks most of the fretboard via shapes.
